Letting Go

For deeper context, this week’s message pairs with last week’s, Thought Alignment: Desire Into Reality post -

"I Know Me"—The Most Limiting Declaration

Three of the most limiting words you can string together are: “I know me.”
It’s expressed often in exasperation, distrust, resignation, or defiance. But its real impact? It quarantines a person to patterns, habits, and confining expectations.

Don’t allow the narrative to define you. You redefine the narrative.

Desiring More—While Expecting Less

How can anyone live a more satisfying life if the familiar template of being is never challenged—only yielded to?
Our settled-in expectations of ourselves and of life leave very little room for the unexpected good we desire.

Many hope, pray, and wish for better outcomes without realizing that their very expectations are shaping results.
How many desire more money but don’t expect it?
How many desire better health but still expect deterioration?
How many desire better relationships but expect things will remain as they have been?

The Pattern Behind the Pattern

Seeing a pattern emerge here?
These expectations arise out of “I know me.” It becomes an indictment of conditioning.

In truth, “I know me” is an acknowledgment of knowing one’s conditioning—not one’s self.

The desire for better comes from the real self. It doesn’t come from your conditioning.

Yes, you indeed know your personal history, your habits, your preferences—your favorite color—but do these things have to define you?

Cleaning the Slate

There’s a paraphrased quote from Emerson that is seared into my consciousness: “Get thy bloated nothingness out of the way.”
That paradox—bloated nothingness—locked in the realization that what we think we know of ourselves is often nothing more than the narrative we’ve created.

I often use a particular imagery in client hypnosis or session conversation—one I’d ask every reader to try, right now if possible:
Begin “air washing” vigorously in front of you, as if wiping a large board clean of all its writings and markings. Let it be your metaphor for cleaning the slate.

Wipe clear the low expectations.
Wipe clear the assumed disappointment.
Wipe clear the assumptions that direct your life.

And most importantly, wipe clear the very notion that your self-perception is written in stone.

Redefine the Narrative

Change “I know me” to “I welcome more through me.”

More love. More abundance. More fulfillment.
More contribution. More esteem. More support.
More possibility. More peace.

Get thy bloated nothingness out of the way—so the me you think you know can be surprised.
