Life’s Hidden Operating System
A reflection on recognizing life’s fundamental working nature and the permission that allows it greater expression.
![]() | If life’s working nature has been hidden beneath suffering, effort, and restrictive assumptions, this article invites a different recognition. Greetings and welcome to all new and existing readers of A Conscious Life Hypnotherapy Practice, where therapeutic hypnosis treatments and grounded tools support meaningful change. |
Today’s article, Life’s Hidden Operating System, explores the recognition that life knows how to work in ways we often overlook. It is not about denying suffering or difficulty, but reconsidering whether life’s working nature may be more fundamental than the assumptions that restrict it.

Life works.
Two interesting words to put together. Life works.
Tell that to someone who’s suffering. Tell that to someone who’s been seeking employment for months.
Tell that to someone who’s experienced one form of loss or another after another. Tell that to someone who grew up in a combative or controlling environment.
Tell that to someone who experiences a chronic illness.
‘Life works’ is not a contradiction to the experience of suffering but the basis of a reset from it.
Life works is a recognition of a fundamental reality rather than a relative or subjective one. This is not a denial of the relative experience, but rather, a recognition independent of it.
Life Works Is Not Denial
When a seed is planted, its fundamental behavior is to grow.
It doesn’t grow to please the planter it grows because life works.
When an injury occurs and conditions are met to promote healing that’s exactly what is taking place – the promotion of healing – the healing itself is because life works.
It’s a reality that hides in plain sight.
In fact, the healing of an injury is not so much recovery occurring but a window into life’s ongoing working nature.
We call it healing but we’re really witnessing, by virtue of the injury interruption, life’s perpetual stasis – it working.
The question to pose to our relative and subjective mind is, can we permit life’s fundamental working nature to transcend the rigidity of our restrictive assumptions about its nature?
Can we permit life's fundamental working nature to express meaningful employment amid relative headlines, conditions and stats?
Can we permit life’s fundamental working nature to transcend a doctor’s prognosis?
Can we permit life's fundamental working nature to transform our suffering into satisfaction?
In this regard, it is not a matter of hope, faith or positivity – those can be guises for imaginative wishing – but, rather, a bold stripping of our subjectivity in favor of a fundamental life works recognition.

The Permission Structure
Can this recognition become an increasing mental permission structure?
Increasing the possible based on permission not effort.
I recently had a client bound into my office declaring they wanted to get stronger at visualization because, anecdotally, they ‘demonstrated’ a goal achieved in the past that they conjectured was because they visualized it coming to pass.
Another client reported reading in a book that you should write something down three times – presumably to make or increase its likelihood of coming to fruition.
The mindset of most of us is, ‘what can I do to make something work?’
It is analogous to, ‘let me make sure I insert the instructions in the ground with the seed to ensure it will know how to grow.’
It’s not that our well-meaning, resonating practices – hoping, visualizing, goal writing, etc. – are useless exercises, it is to question the utilization of them.
Are they used to condition the mind to permit life to work because of its innate capability to do so, or are they the conjectured dependencies thought necessary to ‘instruct’ life on how to work?
The former promotes; the latter is superstition.
Because life works of its own accord it really boils down to permitting it to.
Can we update our mental/emotional permission structure so that life’s working nature has greater license?
Can we permit employment rather than chase it or complain about it. Can we permit health rather than assume our limitations within it?
Can we permit peace of mind rather than say the world doesn’t permit it?
This is what it means to update your permission structure – not through ritual or excessive effort but through permitting the mind to increase its perceptual understanding of life’s working nature.

Difficulty Bias and What We Permit
We do this, albeit haphazardly, when ‘good’ things occur that appear to buck the trend of current momentum.
One of those clients indicated they affirmed two things they desired to come to pass and that one of the things did occur and the other didn’t or hadn’t yet.
Though in their order of desiring these two occurrences, they specified the non-occurring one to happen first – in fact they thought it was necessary in order for the second thing to be feasible.
Yet, the second thing occurred but not, what they considered, the more important first desire.
I ventured to suggest to them that unconsciously, a permission dynamic was at play.
We often, by virtue of ‘difficulty bias’, unconsciously permit life’s working nature to operate unobstructed with something or in an area we’ve deemed ‘easier’ – essentially, permitting life’s efficacy relative to our perception of ease or difficulty.
The second desired thing that did occur in this client’s life could simply reflect an unconscious bias for perceiving it to be easier to occur than the prioritized desire.
Again, as perceptual understanding that life works expands and is permitted to transcend or dissolve our difficulty bias, its working nature ensues free of the need to be instructed.
This isn’t advocating that things magically occur from this understanding. There’s no such thing as magic other than its euphemistic usage.
It means they are permitted to occur naturally without imposed subjective restrictions.
When seeds sprout and grow it is not magic it is natural.
Deprogramming the Need to Make Life Work
How do we permit life’s possibilities to occur naturally? Free of undue strain or effort or the constriction that results in suffering?
Through permitting the nervous system to deprogram from the reinforced idea that we must make life work rather than recognize its working nature.
This programming is reinforced through societal assumptions and ‘not enough’ propaganda.
Commercials inform you that you’re not enough without this product or status symbol.
Upbringing and inherited bias pass along the legacy of not enough-ness.
(How often have we said to ourselves we will not express certain traits or characteristics of our upbringing only to witness the behavior in ourselves, nonetheless?)
The idea of not enough (not enough love, health, money, opportunity, peace, esteem, joy, etc.) is rooted in not recognizing that life works.

The Decision to Permit Permission
Decide – at any moment’s opportunity – that you are willing to permit a growing understanding of life’s fundamental working nature.
Viewing nature specials from the ‘life works’ vantage point is an effective start.
The catalyst for this realignment is the decision to permit permission.
That’s right, the seemingly benign mental decision that you will permit life’s working nature to work begins the permission structure update.
Of course, the natural response is, “then what do I do?”
And this reveals the very axis of the paradigm shift – release the culture of ‘doing’ and accommodate the culture of ‘permitting’.
Use those at-any-moment opportunities to decide, for yourself, what permitting life to work means to you.
You are not looking for the ‘correct’ idea of this consideration – just what feels authentic to you in meaning.
You are appreciating the idea’s nature – that of permitting Life to work – to register in a meaningful way.
How permitting mentally registers for John is different than how permitting registers for Joan.
This consideration appears abstract at first blush because we are not accustomed to appreciating life’s natural, fundamental working nature.
We are conditioned to want to insert the instructions in the ground with the seeds of our life possibilities.
But that’s merely a condition, not a prerequisite.
I hesitate to offer techniques, procedures, and instructional steps, as it were, as that feeds into the former paradigm of doing rather than permitting.
As permitting, because life works, truly registers as enough – then permitting will become enough.

If this article speaks to a place where you’ve been trying to make life work through force, effort, or restriction, I invite you to book a session.
Together, we can explore what it means to recognize life’s working nature more deeply and update the permission structure that allows it greater license in your experience.
