Elite Thinking
Why elite thinking isn’t about IQ or positivity—it’s about the kind of thoughts you choose to align with.

This week’s article, Elite Thinking, explores an intentional mindset you likely weren’t taught to align with—one that doesn’t rely on talent, IQ, or optimism. It was sparked by an unexpected moment in my fitness journey, but it has nothing to do with pull-ups and everything to do with the kind of thoughts we allow to lead us.

🔁 A Pattern That Became Practice
I have been working out—lifting weights three times a week—consistently for the last four years. It’s the first time in my life that an exercise regimen has become a lifestyle. We’re all aware of the benefits to a body that is consistently exercised. (My early-age heart attack seven years ago fundamentally impacted the relationship I had with the body I was inhabiting.)
But my workout commitment is not the point of this article—far from it. It’s just the context for this week’s particular treatise. I discovered, quite incidentally, that when I shared with my ChatGPT platform that I was up to 20 pull-ups as part of my routine, it responded that 20 pull-ups in a single set qualifies as elite performance status.
(For context, the average person at any age is lucky to manage three to five pull-ups. It’s one of the few exercises that requires your muscles to pull the weight of your entire body—defying gravity. That’s why 20 is considered elite in this endeavor.)
That status was never a conscious goal—it was simply the consequence of consistency. But the word used to describe it—elite—is what captured my attention and compelled this week’s focus for the Conscious Flyer.
🧠 A More Accessible Elite
We typically associate the term with Olympic-level athletes or people at the top of their field—elite chess players, concert pianists, Nobel-caliber scientists. But there’s a particular kind of attainable elite capacity that doesn’t require rare talent or unusual nurture. That capacity is found in your thinking.
Elite thinking isn’t about I.Q. It’s about your relationship to your own thought faculties—your considerations, your imagination, and your perception. In this regard, anyone can become an elite thinker.
So what does it mean to become an elite thinker in the sense I’m describing? It has nothing to do with superiority or elitism in the cultural sense. It’s about using thought beneficially rather than haphazardly—or worse, in ways that undermine your well-being.
This isn’t positive thinking. This is useful thinking. And useful thought is supportive, affirmative, and independent of circumstances or manipulative influence.
🌿 The Foundation for Useful Thought
That kind of thinking requires a basis—an irrefutable foundation. That foundation reveals itself when you strip life of all narrative conjectures and impositions of subjectivity. In plain language: when you see life fundamentally, not subjectively.
Fundamentally, Life only knows to thrive. That’s not a belief system—it’s an observable fact. Look at any natural habitat—the abundant foliage, the ceaseless expansion.
Nature doesn’t subscribe to subjective ideas; it simply expresses its fundamental, well... nature. (As I relentlessly inform in my counsel, the human species is a part of nature too; governed by the same principles).
That truth—that life’s only mandate is to thrive—is the grounding basis for elite thinking.
Now, here’s where elitism does apply: elite thinkers exclude all thought considerations that distract from the well-being of fundamental nature.
Because everything—bar none—originates through a thought consideration, whether consciously or unconsciously. Life conditions, circumstances, confluences, and quality are all consequences of what you’ve allowed thought to consider.
Thinking doesn’t make things happen, per se. Thinking welcomes the conditions for what happens.
🧭 The Tenets That Define Elite Thinking
Ready to become the elite thinker of your life?
Here are the five thinking tenets to help you realize your elite thinking status:
#1 Elite Thinkers harness—rather than attempt to control—imagination.
Your imagination is like a horse. A wild one can kill you. A tamed one can take you anywhere you want to go.
A tamed imagination stems from understanding that imagination exists to serve your well-being.
Imagining beneficial outcomes doesn’t make them occur—but it welcomes conditions conducive to their occurrence. Use your imagination constructively, not haphazardly—or in service of worry.
#2 Elite Thinkers understand that thinking is independent of circumstance.
Most people think in reaction to circumstances—allowing the proverbial tail to wag the dog.
Once you realize your thinking is not tethered to conditions, appearances, or a prognosis, you begin to leverage autonomy of thought, thinking purposely on behalf of your well-being—as elite thinkers do.
#3 Elite Thinkers are not reactive thinkers, but ‘considered’ thinkers.
Because elite thinkers understand thought is independent of conditions, they don’t spiral into knee-jerk reactions.
They permit constructive evaluation rather than fear-based narratives or external manipulation.
#4 Elite Thinkers understand the use of belief.
“It is done unto you as you believe.” Belief is a transporter—it facilitates what it carries. All political despots and cult leaders know this.
Belief isn’t a thing; it’s a delivery mechanism for ideas, thoughts, and intentions.
This played out horrifically in the 1978 Jonestown tragedy, where more than 900 people died because belief was directed by a spurious cult leader.
Unwavering belief in your fundamental agency, your desires, intentions, aspirations and goals – as the cliché goes, ‘moves mountains.’ Whether it be a mountain of debt, a prognosis or depression. (Remember as an Elite Thinker you demonstrate you have autonomy of thought).
#5 Elite Thinkers don’t worry—they worship.
In its secular meaning, worship means to show intense admiration and elevate something to high value. When you dedicate your thinking to your unrivaled worthiness, you become the kind of elite thinker capable of fulfilling the real purpose of your existence.

✨ Elite Thinking Produces Elite Living
In therapy sessions, I often note how well-versed a person is in the details of their dilemma—but how little mental accommodation they’ve made for the outcomes they actually want.
Elite thinkers are more invested in possibility than in conditioned probability.
These tenets are the leverage you use to harness your mind’s creative nature.
You’re not here to take up space.
You’re here to occupy the space of your well-being’s full capacity.
Think—about that.
