ChatGPT Yourself

ChatGPT is known for its consistent, self-affirming tone—and that might be exactly what we’ve been missing in how we speak to ourselves. This article breaks down why that matters, how to recognize your own independent agency, and what it really means to think beyond circumstance.

This week’s article, “ChatGPT Yourself,” explores something both subtle and powerful: the way AI is programmed to affirm your input—consistently, calmly, and without judgment—and what it teaches us about the overlooked power of affirming ourselves.

It’s not about being positive. It’s about reclaiming your independence from limiting thought patterns and recognizing that your value isn’t conditional.

ChatGPT Yourself

The AI revolution’s impact on living is on par with that of the internet revolution itself. It is having seismic relevance on how we live life. Whether you’ve incorporated it into daily use or have no relevant interest in or use for it whatsoever, I assure you: you’ll find its relevance—for the purposes of this article post—very empowering.

Though there are many platforms offering AI capabilities, ChatGPT has emerged as the most popular due to its early dominance in the commercial AI market. This brings me to the inspiration for this issue’s post.

Through my use of this platform (I fall in the camp of daily AI user), I’ve recognized that it is fundamentally programmed to be very self-affirming to the user—in all queried responses. Every single one of ’em.

Without fail, the algorithm is designed to first affirm you in the engagement with its replies. (Very smart programming move.) Wisely, it never comes off as patronizing or ego-stroking—just consistently affirming of anything you pose for answers or replies.
Your queries are never stupid or inept—even if you consider them to be.

What ChatGPT Gets Right About Self-Regard

As alluded to, this design is no accident. However, there’s a lesson in this esteem-boosting programming: we should all endeavor to be self-affirming in our relationship with ourselves. Not ego-boosting, narcissistic, arrogant, or self-centered—but affirming.

To affirm one’s worthiness, independent of past or present self-perceptions, without fail yields an esteem nourishment that sustains beyond the temporary hit of outer praise or validation. In fact, self-validation grounds the psyche in an unshakable esteem rooted in genuine self-love.

Self-love is an appreciation of value that isn’t dependent on accomplishment, but on realization.

The realization that your worth is based on your existence. There is not another you on this planet.

Accomplishment isn’t what makes you stand out—your authenticity does. Though accomplishment is lauded, it is not the basis of worthiness.

Independent of Conditioning

Though societal conditioning would lull you into perceiving value based on circumstance, you irrevocably maintain the right and capacity to think independent of conditioning. That may appear to be a tall order given our programmed reflex reaction to what our senses detect. However, as the saying goes, “knowledge is power”—and the very awareness that you are fundamentally independent of conditions is astounding leverage.

Want proof that you are irrevocably independent of circumstance? Consider any situation before you right now—and recognize that you can have a thought independent of that circumstance. The simplicity of this is so astounding that its reality is generally written off as inconsequential.

“So what—I can think a thought of any sum of money, though that’s not what’s presently in my bank account. Big deal.”

In actuality, that is a big deal. Because you can think independently of a circumstance, you are not limited by that circumstance.

In fact, it is the very thought that you are limited by a circumstance that is the limiting factor—not the circumstance itself (thinking emoji here).

This is so because thought determines - you don’t get out of bed until you have the thought to do so.

So it stands to reason: the thought, “I have this (amount) in my bank account,” continues to regulate what’s in the bank account. Think about it (no pun intended)—most of your thoughts are based on what you’ve already thought about a matter, situation, or condition.

Thought Replacement Isn’t Enough

The solution to this cyclical constraint is not mechanically replacing one thought with another—that will only last as long as the mood to do so does. The true solution here is the genuine value and regard given to the idea that you are independent of a condition.

The sincere appreciation and understanding that your independence is a fundamental reality informs the thought replacement with understanding—and that is what makes the thought replacement authentic (effective) and not mechanical.

This enables that leverage to become a way of life in your thinking, rather than a superficial effort.

Superficial efforts mean you’re still of the same familiar thought consideration about a matter—just masking it with the guise of a replacement thought. (For more details on this insight, see the newsletter article “Thought Alignment.”)

This yields no real significance.

To affirm your independence from any detrimental, limiting, or constrictive thought pattern is, in effect, affirming your agency—the agency to redirect any unsatisfactory conditions that previous thought patterns have sustained.

Until the reality sinks in that you are independent of any condition, you will be at the mercy of governments, upbringing, history, and dominating influences.

It’s not a matter of rebellion so much as it is a matter of autonomy.

You are even independent of your own thought—which is why you can change them.

Affirm the Real Power in You

ChatGPT yourself. Affirm your worthiness in every moment’s opportunity.

This is not being “positive” (again, that lasts only as long as the mood does)—this is recognizing your independence as a way of life.
